a valentine's diy.

Happy Valentine's Day.  Like I mentioned yesterday, my husband and I don't really celebrate the holiday, but this year I decided to make some fun valentines.  I created a few cards and a few canvas bags filled with candy.  I wanted to share how to create these little bags.  It's super easy to do at home.

supplies:

canvas bags (I bought mine here in bulk, but you can get them at Michaels or Paper Source), ink jet tshirt transfer paper, a printer, iron, towel, candy.

what to do:

1. I started by making a simple design in adobe illustrator.  You can also make something on word it you don't have illustrator.

2. After you have finished the image, you need to mirror the image.  (varies slightly from program, but you will need to rotate the image by flipping it horizontally so that it is backwards).

3. Print out the image on the transfer paper, then cut down to size.

4. Put down a towel, then place the image down where you want it on the canvas bag, image side down.

5. Iron the image on the bag (I also put a small piece of cardboard into the canvas bag just so the front and back of the bag were well separated).  Wait for it to cool down, then pull the backing off of the transfer paper.

6. Add candy and give to your valentine.

xoxo!

snail mail.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner.  To be completely honest, G and I don't usually celebrate this holiday, but this year I'm sending out a few valentines to our family members and I think it's a tradition that I would like to continue.  It's definitely a great excuse to send the special people in your life a little card to let them know you are thinking of them.  I just love love love getting cards in the mail and am making a huge effort to try and send them out.  When life tends to be all about the digital message (ie. instagram, twitter, facebook, and the abundance of emails) sometimes receiving a little something via snail mail brings so much old school joy.

modern budget {on the beach}. four

Is anyone else day dreaming about a beachy getaway?  I am!  I mean, just look at this photo taken in Greece.  That water is seriously calling my name.  And of course you need a cute suit to rock on that sand.  I recently purchased this one piece from Forever21 and I am in love with it.  Really, any excuse to wear this suit is fine with me.  I think a hot tub is more likely to appear in my near future, but I'm still dreaming about that turquoise water.

brights.

Apparently I need to get to Target immediately.  This bright skirt and these awesome shoes, from the new Prabal Gurung collection, need to join my closet.  Right?!?

top it off.

Remember when I said I was going to try and add some hats into my wardrobe?  Well I did last night and I gotta say that I'm kind of hooked.  I have been sporting my beanie around town the past few weeks and have been loving it.  Then last night my husband, sweet friend Natalie and I attend an even at Anthropologie (hosted by these girls) and I brought out my big floppy wool hat.  I think you'll be seeing a lot more of me in hats this year.

ring a ding.

Who needs a big new gorgeous ring?  Answer is, not me...but maybe a few of you ladies out there are in need.  I mean, Valentine's Day is right around the corner after all.  Here are a few that have caught my eye this past week.

gold glasses.

I'm putting together a little inspirational tablescape this week and I can't wait to share the details (sorry, but you must wait a bit to see the pics).  While gathering all of my plates, flatware, etc. I discovered that I need more glassware.  I mean we have plenty, trust me, but I feel like everything is pretty generic and sometimes I just want something with a little more character.  Lately I've been craving some gold rimmed glasses.  I mean, wouldn't they make any dinner party just a little more special?  I'm especially loving these anthro beauties.

off the shoulder.

I love a big slouchy sweater, especially one that reveals a peek of my shoulder.  I mean, I think there is something so incredibly hot about showing off just a bit of skin.  Ha, I guess one wouldn't normally describe a big old sweater as "hot", but I swear that little glimpse of skin is pretty frickin' feminine.  I've got my eye on this free people goodie.  Pretty please get into my closet.

it's monday already?

Hi Monday morning, I'm not sure I'm ready for you quite yet.  I'm wishing this weekend would last just a tiny bit longer, but I guess it's time to jump back into it.  Eeeekkkk, I really want to climb back into my cozy bed.  And speaking of, how amazing does this little setup look?  I would love a pretty draped canopy above G and I's bed.  So romantic.  Doesn't it look like a dreamy little escape?  Ok ok, enough day dreaming, time to get this week started.

beanie love.

The other day as I was heading out the door, I gave myself one last glance in the mirror and decided that my hair wasn't quite cooperating.  I had little time to do any major fixes, so I popped on a beanie and I have to admit, I really liked the final look.  Nothing like a hat to fix a bad hair day.  Oh and a swipe of red lipstick always brightens my mood.  Happy Friday everyone!
