style session, take 2.

Remember that DVF dress that I was head over heels in love with?  Well, I finally scooped it up when it was on sale at Nordstrom and haven't really stopped wearing it since.  I even did a second little style session on Glitter Guide showing how I'd wear it to brunch with the girls, then out to dinner with my husband.  Check it all out here.  Huge thanks to Taylor for having me again and of course to Caroline for the photos.

feathery diy.

I wasn't kidding when I said that I love feathers.  I spotted Rachel Bilson on this magazine cover over a year ago and I was obsessed.  When I first saw it I thought that was a chunky chain necklace with feathers attached, but now when giving it a fresh glance I think those feathers are actually a part of her dress.  Well, whatever the case, I loved the look and was determined to make it mine.  I searched high and low for something similar and when I came up with nothing, I decided that I could make something just as unique.  I swear that this was the easiest DIY project ever.  I purchased a necklace at Loehmann's for $15, bought some ostrich feathers, and used a hot glue gun to attach them to the back of the necklace.  Done and done.  In total, the project probably took me about 5 minutes to complete and yet I feel like I achieved just the look I was aiming for.

feather sale.

We are back from a fun filled family weekend.  My little niece and nephew let me smother them with hugs and kisses, so for me it was pretty much the best weekend ever.  I love family time!  And while in suburbia you know I had to make a run to the local Target.  I had already purchased a few of these feathers and just HAD to have a few more.  Ummmm they were a steal at $4 each (on sale)!  I plan on spray painting them to use as some home decor.  I have a slight feather addiction, so when I see one I can't really say no.

family birthdays.

This week has been a birthday bonanza.  First G's birthday and now this weekend it's our niece's 2nd birthday.  We are so excited to hang with the fam and to squeeze our little niece and nephew.  Ha, remember that time in childhood when all of the sudden it's just not that "cool" to hug your parents in front of your friends?  Oh dear, does that happen with your aunts & uncles too?  I certainly hope not, cause I plan on squishing these two well into their teen years.  Watch out, Smothering Aunt Myka is coming for a visit. :)  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

hola.

Do you know a second language?  Living here in San Francisco, where a million tourists from all over the world flock, it's easy to go into a coffee shop and find yourself surrounded by beautiful languages.  I studied Spanish in high school and even took a few classes in college, but then I stopped.  Why?  I'm not sure, but I'm kind of mad that I never stuck with it.  I know it's not too late to take another class and it's something I've been thinking about doing for awhile now.  I think that knowing another language is such an amazing thing and I'm pushing myself to go for it.  Wish me luck or buena suerte...at least I think that's how you say it.

a birthday gift.

As soon as I spotted this Oh Dier sign via Tara's blog I knew that we had to have one.  I mean come on, that "you're killin' me smalls" one was plain old cracking me up.  So when it was time to find a birthday gift for G, I knew that one of these signs was the perfect present.  G and I don't normally buy one another birthday gifts.  Weird, I know.  ha!  Well it's not that we don't buy one another presents, it's more like we don't surprise each other with the gifts.  We are total dorks and when our bdays roll around we usually go shopping together and just pick out one special item.  Very anti-climatic, right?  But honestly we both kind of love spending the day roaming around helping one another find the perfect little item.  Well I went rogue this year and decided I was gonna surprise G with his gift.  The only problem, the big surprise was almost ruined when the gift showed up while I was away on a bachelorette party.  Crap!  Well I quickly made up some crazy story about how I had bought my cousin a gift on etsy and asked G not to open it cause I wanted to ship it to her in that same box.  He totally bought it (and sorry cousin Em, I didn't really buy you a gift...ha!).  I asked Oh Dier if they could do a custom piece and they were more then willing (btw, awesome etsy shop.  I highly recommend them).  I chose an acrylic white (you know our favorite color) sign, and asked them to use "love you, love your show".  It's a saying G and I always say to one another, so I knew it was just perfect.  Speaking of, people often ask us what it means and truth is I didn't entirely know.  It's just our little way of saying I totally love you.  Then I looked it up and found this definition on urban dictionary, "to be fond of someone, grow a liking to, fancy someone, intensely favor their whole being".  Yep, that about sums it up.  I love your whole being G and am so happy to share my life with you.

mix it up.

Thanks everyone for the love on Glitter Guide yesterday.  I had so much fun working on that little style session.  My favorite part was being able to pick a pretty laid back piece, a chambray shirt, and pair it with more fancy pieces, like that sequin skirt.  In my everyday style I definitely tend to gravitate towards more "dressy" pieces that might seem out of place during the day, so I'm always hunting for something that will bring it down to earth and make it a little more appropriate for the daytime hours.  I've got to say that the below image of Jenna Lyons at the 2011 Met Gala totally embodies that styling that I covet.  I love love love that she took a floor length feathered skirt and paired it with a comfy sweater.  It looks stunning!

style session.

Happy Monday!  Hope everyone had an amazing weekend.  We had such a blast celebrating G's birthday (more on that to come), and then I woke up this morning to see my styling session on Glitter Guide!  YAY!  Check out how I styled a chambray shirt two ways.  Oh and by the way, I bought that chambray shirt at Target for $20 and literally wear it all of the time!  I love a good bargain (similar shirt).  And a special thanks to Caroline (and Donna) for capturing these photos and creating such a fun day!

happy birthday.

Happy happy happy birthday Georges!  These past 12 years have been better then I could have ever expected.  I wake up every day feeling so incredibly lucky and blessed to have you by my side.  No matter what life throws our way, I know you are with me every step of the way, and that is more then I could ever ask for.  You are kind, funny, smart, caring, loving...I could go on & on, but I don't want to get too gushy up in here.

love you, love your show! xoxo.

This photo is circa 2000 or 2001, when G came up to visit my family and their alpacas.  ha!
