fashion's night out.

Last night I met up with some girlfriends and hit up fashion's night out here in the city!  The festivities along Fillmore Street were a blast.  The highlights included: alice & olivia with the cutest cookies modeled after their pants; marc by marc jacobs complete with a photobooth; and the always fun drybar who gave out a bag filled to the brim with hair products!  Yay, I know I know...it's not New York, but our city sure does know how to throw one fun fashion party.  It was definitely a night to remember out with the girls!

vacation in pictures.

Our trip to Charleston, SC for my aunt's wedding was unbelievable.  I really can't say enough great things about this magical little city, so instead of trying to convey it in LOTS of words, I'll let the photos and my short descriptions do the talking.

{1} A pretty little gate tucked within the city. {2} I lost count of all of the gorgeous homes we saw. I seriously wanted to live in every.single.one of them! {3} G and I enjoying a family night at my aunt and uncle's beautiful house. {4} We pretty much ate our way through our vacation, and one of our favorite meals was at Hominy Grill. It was unbelievable, especially the shrimp & grits!

{5} We drove down to Savannah, GA one day and I gotta say it did not disappoint. The place is seriously gorgeous with tiny little squares littering the city and of course more of those to-die-for southern homes. {6} Not gonna lie, it was a bit humid during our trip, but G found this park bench to sit and relax by the water. {7} My dad also decided to take a seat (that day was pretty darn hot)! {8} One of the most charming parts about Charleston are the prety little alleyways. G and I spent one morning walking the quaint little alleys just in awe of the cobblestone streets.

{9} Our last full day of vacation was Labor Day and we headed down to the beach with my aunt, uncle, cousins and their 2 daughters. A wonderful way to end our trip. {10} Here are G and I fresh out of the Atlantic (on Sullivan's Island). It was my first time swimming in the Atlantic and I couldn't get over how warm the water was. {11} A shot of G and I at my aunt's wedding. My aunt went all out and crafted up some amazing decor (can't wait to see the pro's pics). It was such a wonderful celebration with my family. {12} A gorgeous little garden maze at the Magnolia Plantation & Gardens. {13} Wandering around the streets of Charleston again, taking in the amazing buildings.

Ok, I lied, I have a few more favorites to write about!  I must mention the culinary tour we took on our first day in town (thanks Mollie for the recommendation).  It was awesome to hear about the history of Charleston, while eating up some southern favorites (like grits, fried green tomatoes, and sweet tea).  Ummm and eating was one of the many highlights of the trip.  I already mentioned Hominy Grill (insanely good), but my dad, G and I all agreed that our favorite restaurant was Magnolias.  We highly recommend it.  Oh and I can't forget to mention Dixie!  Get the grits there...A-mazing!  I really truly can't wait for our next trip back.  Thanks to my aunt Susie and uncle Pete for hosting a wonderful week!

one more day.

We are back from a week long vacation and yet I'm still exhausted.  ha!  It seems that's what happens when you go away, right?  You need an extra day to recuperate from your vacation?  G and I just spent the past week in Charleston, South Carolina to celebrate my aunt's wedding and we had an absolutely amazing time.  I'll be back later this week to share more about our time in the South!  For now, I'm still resting.  xoxo!

celebrate.

Yay, it's time for a long holiday weekend!  What are you up to?  G and I are spending time with family and enjoying an extra-extra day off for him.  Yipppeeee, see ya on Wednesday.

Oh and by the way, this photo has little to do with celebrating a holiday weekend, but aren't the girls so cute holding up those vases of wildflowers?  I'm not exactly sure what they are doing, but it caught my eye and made me smile.

piñata please.

I'm not planning a party any time soon that is in need of a piñata, but come on...when you look at these, do you really need a reason?  Maybe I need to throw a little "just because" park picnic, just so I can purchase one these beauties.

comfy.

I posted a pic of these TOMS on instagram yesterday and rapidly had friends texting me asking about them, so I thought I'd dedicate a little post to them.  I've been kind of obsessed with TOMS since the days when I worked in the wedding industry.  Standing on your feet for countless hours (as in starting setup for a wedding at 8am, and striking that night at midnight), meant I needed to wear something super comfy, so these were my go to.  And this new fabric has so far held up pretty well....score!

statement necklace.

When it comes down to jewelry, I'm usually quick to reach for a pile of bracelets to put on my wrists, but recently I've been really into statement necklaces.  I really love how they can turn a simple outfit into something with more interest and style.  Ummm and hello, at $7.80, I think every girl should snatch this up in a hurry.

dinner by candles.

While I was eating my way through the city this weekend (with amazing meals here & here), I started to think about how much I care about the atmosphere of where I am dining.  Ha, truth be told, I'm not really a foodie and going out to eat for me is more about the company that I'm with then the actual food that I'm eating.  I mean, I love a good meal like anybody else but really hanging with family and friends is what it's all about for me.  Oh and I'm sure if you asked my husband what my fave restaurant was, he would tell you something along the lines of, "Myka likes any restaurant as long as it's cute".  SO true!  The decor of a restaurant is one of the first things I think about when I'm trying to figure out where to eat.  A bit crazy, I know, but I can't help it.  And a major part of the decor for me is all about the lighting.  I love love love a dinner out in a candle lit space.  It's cozy and intimate, and my ultimate favorite way to dine.  I try to carry that same thought over to our own home and meals at our house.  We were once chastised by a former landlord (a very artistic-designer type landlord, when we lived in a loft) that our lights were NOT on dimmers.  We laughed, but you know what, we quickly changed all of our lighting over that week.  Dimming your lights or eating amongst the glow of candles, is the only way to go in my book.

eat eat eat.

YAY, it's the fricking weekend!  What are you up to?  I will be pretty much eating my way through this weekend.  No joke!  On Sunday I have a breakfast, lunch AND dinner date.  ha!  I'm not even kidding.  I don't usually go out to eat that much throughout the entire weekend, let alone ALL in one day.  Hey, all of my plans ended up falling on the same day and I'm actually pretty excited about it.  My hubby and I are thrilled to spend some time with friends while gobbling up food in the cutest little restaurants in the city (and one across the Golden Gate).  Hope everyone has a scrumptious little weekend too!

p.s. I'd love to eat this!

tie dye dress.

Well I think you can guess from yesterday's post that the maxi dress is still my go to outfit as of late.  I've been desperately trying to incorporate more pants into my wardrobe, but truth be told, pulling on a maxi dress and a sweater as I'm flying out the door is just so darn easy that the habit is hard to break.  Oh yay, and notice that I mentioned sweater???  That's because it's pretty darn cold here at the moment (not that I'm complaining.  I'm not so good in the heat).  So when I saw this dress, I thought this could be the perfect addition to my closet.  I haven't yet taken the plunge and bought it, cause I'm actually thinking this could be a pretty easy diy with one of my older dresses.  I haven't tie dyed anything in years, but I'm up for the challenge.
